Tomorrow, everyone in the U.S. will be rushing to the stores to go get their loved ones some roses and chocolate. It’s one of the most commercialized holidays in the United States, also referred to as a “Hallmark Holiday”.
Unlike the United States, Iran has had enough of this overly commercialized holiday. Iran has officially banned Valentine’s Day in their country. They banned it on the premise of retailers “promoting decadent western culture through Valentine’s Day rituals”. While Iran’s decision on banning the Western holiday may seem a bit harsh, they seem to be on the right track. There is no need for a holiday to celebrate the one you love. Every day should be Valentine’s Day, or it seems that Iran may think so.
