The eclectic Icelandic music scene just keeps giving and giving. Ásgeir’s latest release Stardust, is current and he seems to be moving further in the electronic direction for the forthcoming Afterglow LP – out May 5th.
With songs rooted in a singer-songwriter style, Ásgeir has a notable ability to make them sound anything but. The synthy bass he employs has been rippling through my speakers over the last couple of days and it holds the track together nicely. I’m really fond of the the different directions he takes with his vocal melodies and the varying dynamic keeps the ear intrigued.
His second studio album promises much. This sound he has is funky and contemporary, but I hope to hear some more of his stripped back work blended in to the full album. Lets hope he can fit a New York date into his calendar sometime this year.
