Uh oh, looks like the Bay area has some emerging talents – with the right promotion and marketing, they could take over R&B instantly. Young Berkeley, California’s Dan IDK collaborates with Oakland’s Aziza Cree on their latest single “Famous”.

The underground R&B artists offer plenty of promise in this project which is featured on Dan IDK’s mix-tape COOLSTORYDAN. In fact, Dan IDK is actually a rapper turned songwriter – his mix-tape primarily features Bay Area vocalists Gabby Rose and Aziza Cree, with a few features from rappers hailing the region. The songstress, Aziza Cree also released a mix-tape in winter 2015 named Pack Loud. Judging by both collaborators’ bodies of work, they embody the new generation of R&B.

Aziza Cree, who’s voice has a zephyrean presence analogous to Jhené Aiko or Cassie intertwined with neo soul realness, warns about the dangers of seeking fame at any costs – essentially providing an alt-R&B answer to Kanye West’s song of the same title. Matching Aziza’s delivery and the impactful lyricism on Dan IDK’s part is the loopy, levitating production, that mixes in a hint of DJ Mustard’s sonic stuttering sound. To say the least, this joint is fire and a great two-minute listen deserving quite a few back to back spins. It provides a spacey feel, interlacing all the essential elements to a great R&B song.

The duo released a music video for the song which features trippy cuts, a stunning Aziza Cree who puts Marc Jacob’s NYFW dreadlocks to shame, and a dramatic ending that lives up to the song’s meaning.
