Zedd & Aloe Blacc created a new version of Sammy Davis Jr.'s "Candyman."
Any time I hear the song original song, “Candyman,” I think of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. I know the that movie came out 21 years before I was born; but that makes no difference. Sammy Davis Jr.’s “Candyman” was actually written for that movie, so I am going to say my association makes sense. For their 75th anniversary, M&Ms had the song, “Candyman” reimagined by Zedd and Aloe Blacc.
I really like the song. I think the lyrics deviated a little too much from the original. However, this opinion probably has to do with some sense of nostalgia I feel like is missing in the song. This is also very different from Zedd’s older music. Hit songs like “Clarity,” “Stay the Night,” and “I Want You to Know,” are progressive house songs. These songs even feature pop artists such as Foxes and Selena Gomez. It has a really cool future vibe to it. The huge difference in the music led to some hate on Soundcloud.
There’s a ton of comments basically saying this track was ghost produced. However, the artist, many Soundcloud users are saying actually created this track, Grey, was credited by Zedd on Twitter.
If Zedd is publicly crediting other people who worked with him on the track, it does not count as ghost production.
Here is the scene from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with the original song. This movie was the reason for the song’s creation. On top of it, watching the scene just brings back great memories.
